The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy

Faculty

At The Center for Excellence, I oversee the critical transition from classroom theory to clinical application. My facilitation of the experiential practicum is deeply informed by the Relational EMDR model and my ongoing, advanced consultation with Deany Laliotis. I mentor clinicians as they develop a understanding of the AIP model—providing the foundational support necessary for the journey toward EMDRIA Certification.

I specialize in helping trainees navigate informational plateaus, mastering the art of the cognitive interweave, and ensuring the clinical precision required for Phase 4-6 implementation. By focusing on state-shift capacity and the 'Past-Present' connection, I help clinicians build the confidence to handle complex trauma with protocol fidelity.

Beyond the training room, I provide the 10 hours of required consultation for Basic Training cohorts. In this capacity, I support clinicians as they begin to apply the 8-phase protocol with their actual caseloads. I focus on bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world clinical hurdles—helping therapists maintain fidelity while navigating the complexities of the therapeutic relationship.

EMDR Basic Training Curriculum

The foundations outlined in Part 1 and Part 2 are part of the comprehensive curriculum designed by Deany Laliotis, an EMDRIA Approved Trainer, and offered to clinicians through The Center for Excellence in EMDR Therapy. As faculty, I deliver this proprietary material to ensure trainees receive the curriculum as designed, with fidelity to EMDRIA standards and the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model.

Part 1 Foundations

Case Conceptualization: Teaching clinicians to distinguish between presenting symptoms and problems through the AIP lens.

AIP History Taking: Mapping the past-present connection and determining clinical themes.

Target Selection & Fidelity: Determining Negative/Positive Cognition and identifying informational plateaus.

State Management: Assessing and building client capacity for arousal/de-arousal using Calm State, Container, and Grounding.

Phase 4-7 Oversight: Facilitating the implementation of Desensitization, Installation, and Body Scan, and Closure.

Phase 8 Re-evaluation:  Demonstrating Re-Evaluation and teaching clinicians to notice the adaptive information emerging after a reprocessing session.

Part 2 Advanced Implementation

RDI: Instruction on Resource Development and Installation (RDI) for client stability.

Phase 4-8 Oversight: Facilitating the implementation of Desensitization, Installation, Body Scan, and Re-Evaluation.

Protocol Selection: Teaching the strategic application of EMD, EMDr, and EMDR protocols; assisting trainees in assessing client stability to determine the appropriate level of processing intensity.

The Art of the Interweave: Role-modeling and explaining the timing of Cognitive Interweaves.

Integration & Closure: Teaching the 'Stop/Start' for incomplete targets and the use of the Future Template.

Vermont Counseling Network

Course Abstract: This five-month education and consultation series is designed to enhance the provider’s ability to develop comprehensive case conceptualizations and navigate complex clinical choice points. By integrating evidence-based frameworks with real-world scenarios, participants refine the therapist-client collaboration process and master the distinction between client-centered and client-led approaches.

Core Learning Domains:

  • Case Conceptualization: Application of a structured framework to move from intake to treatment.

  • Clinical Choice Points: Strategic navigation of decision-making moments to enhance effectiveness.

  • Treatment Planning: Integration of evidence-based interventions with individual client needs.

  • Collaboration Models: Differentiating between client-centered and client-led engagement strategies.
